Sher Akbar Khan of the PPPS won this seat in the 2002 election while ANP’s
Abdul Mateen Khan and Saeed Raheem Advocate, an independent candidate, were the first and second runners-up, respectively.
The candidates this time around are Irshad Alam of the PMLQ, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan of the PPP, Sher Akbar Khan of the PPPS,
Mateen Khan of the ANP and Ali Sher Khan of the PMLN. Observers are agreed that the real contest will be between the PPPS
and the ANP. The latter’s Mateen Khan has proved to be a formidable force in the past elections. Indeed, before NA-28
was carved out, Buner was part of NA-23 Buner-cum-Shangla seat in 1997 and fell into NA-23 Buner-cum-Swat in 1993. And Mateen
Khan had won the NA-23 seats in both 1993 and 1997.
