Hailing from Village Totalai, District Buner, Sardar Hussain Babak won PF-77 Buner for ANP in provincial assembly. He was
initially nominated as Minister of Information and Public Relations for ANP-led provincial government. Now he is performing
his deuties as
Minister for Primary Education of NWFP. After completing high school
from his village, Babak completed his intermediate from Science Superior College Peshawar. He got his BSc degree from Islamia
College Peshawar and took his Masters degree in Journalism from the University of Peshawar.
His paternal grandfather,
Haji Faqir Mohammad, was an active worker of Bacha Khan’s Khudai Khidmatgar Movement and many times went behind the
bars. Ex-minister of transportation Mr. Mohammad Karim Babak is his uncle who was elected twice on the same seat on Awami
National Party’s ticket.
Sardar Hussain Babak started his journalistic career from Peshawar working for English and
Urdu dailies. Later, he went to UAE where he worked for Gulf News. He was also in charge of the Pashto service in Middle East’s
famous broadcasting service “Radio Asia”.
38 years old Babak is one of those 75% of ANP MPs who came
to the party from Pakhtun Student Federations’ platform. In the election 2002, Babak had lost his provincial assembly
seat to PPP Sherpao’s Jamshed Khan; however, he won his seat this time contesting against the same person.
Babak likes to call himself a “political worker” instead of a leader or an officer. He is of the view that ones
career and success is dependent on ones capacity as a “worker” in political terms and he would like to be a political
worker for all his life.
Sardar Hussain Babak is well-known to the media persons/journalists in Peshawar. His brother
Shamim Shahed is also a prominent journalist.
He is serving the province as Minister of Schools & Literacy in Pakhtunkhwa
cabinet.
